The Latvian government has approved a new package of comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in 2024. The country will provide almost €10 million to rebuild Ukraine and support the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Verkhovna Rada.
5.3 million euros will be used to rebuild Ukraine. Another 4.3 million was allocated by the Latvian government to support the Armed Forces through the European Peace Fund.
In particular, the report states that Latvia is taking care of the restoration and reconstruction of the Chernihiv region.
"The government's plan for this year provides for the reconstruction of social infrastructure facilities in the region, psychological assistance to women, digitalization, consultations on territorial planning, and EU integration," the Verkhovna Rada informs.
Latvia's aid to Ukraine
Earlier it was reported that Latvia was preparing a new aid package for Ukraine, including howitzers, ammunition, and more. An agreement was also signed on military cooperation between the two countries, including the production of drones.
Before that, Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Karinš said that the country had provided €595 million in aid to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. This is 0.85% of the country's GDP.
In addition, the Latvian government has allocated 15.6 million euros to cover the costs incurred by municipal authorities in connection with the reception and support of refugees from Ukraine.
