Report: Insiders believe 21-year-old Chelsea man is now favourite to win big award this summer

Chelsea may not win anything this season, losing the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool in February and sitting 12th in the table right now.

They are still in the FA Cup, but Mauricio Pochettino‘s men will have to beat Manchester City in the semi-finals if they want to claim the trophy, which will not be an easy task.

One of their players could win an individual award before the season ends, though, with Malo Gusto and Cole Palmer both having fantastic campaigns.

Gusto has filled in for the injured Reece James, who is reportedly attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, nicely. He has racked up five assists in 21 Premier League games this season, which is not bad for a full-back.

As for Palmer, his numbers are truly scary. The attacker has recorded 28 goal contributions since joining Chelsea from City last summer.

Chelsea player could win award

With Chelsea doing so badly in the Premier League this season, there is probably no chance of any of their top performers claiming the PFA Player of the Year award.

However, it does look like one man at Stamford Bridge could win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

According to The Telegraph, insiders believe Palmer is the leading candidate to claim the honour after the season he has had.

If the Englishman does go on to win it, no one can say it is not deserved.

Palmer could now be rewarded with a new contract despite only joining Chelsea last year.

Will Cole Palmer win the PFA Young Player of the Year award?

Honestly, at this point, it would be a bit of a surprise if he did not.

In the Premier League this season, there has probably not been a player his age who has been better.

There certainly has not been a 21-year-old in the division who has been as productive as Palmer, who has scored 13 top-flight goals and recorded eight assists.

It is a shame that Chelsea do not find themselves competing for the title, as that would have probably made the England international a contender for the main award as well.
