Alan Brazil shares who he thinks is the best player in Tottenham Hotspur’s squad

TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has said who he thinks is currently Tottenham Hotspur’s best player.

Ange Postecoglou watched on as his side picked up a point in their Champions League pursuit on Tuesday night.

The London Stadium has been a notoriously difficult place for the Lilywhites to go over recent years, Tuesday’s trip proved no different.

After scoring inside four minutes, Spurs struggled to break down a resolute West Ham defence and were forced to settle for the point.

But Brazil was left shocked after he saw what Postecoglou did with the player he feels is the best at the club.

What did Ange Postecoglou do with James Maddison

James Maddison came into the game on the back of an underwhelming display against Luton Town on the weekend.

He was withdrawn on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Rodrigo Bentancur and again on Tuesday, this time for Dejan Kulusevski.

Tim Sherwood shared his concerns for Maddison over the weekend claiming the playmaker did not look injured as he trotted off down the tunnel.

And on Tuesday night, Maddison found himself being withdrawn before the full-time whistle again which Jamie O’Hara said he found ‘strange’.

His TalkSPORT colleague Brazil has now weighed in on the matter and has also shared his shock at the 58-year-old’s decision.

But Brazil has gone one further and claimed Maddison is currently the best player at the club.

He said: “I was shocked as well. It had to be one of the wide players for me, but it wasn’t. I’m terrible me, I’m old fashioned, if your two wide players aren’t beating the full-backs regularly I think it’s a waste.

“You tell me how many times did the wide players beat the full-backs, for the goal yes, but apart from that the second half, nothing. Maddison is their best player!”

Perhaps Heung-min Son would have something to say about this considering he has provided 23 goal contributions this season.

Is James Maddison injured?

The £40m midfielder arrived in the summer and made an instant impact in north London as he picked up the first Player of the Month award.

Over the course of the season, Maddison has been able to rack up four goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

However, he has struggled to really put down any form since returning from his injury which he picked up back in November.

And there now has to be the question of whether he is still feeling the effects of that ankle injury which saw him go down against Chelsea.

Nine of Maddison’s 12 goal contributions came in the opening 10 games of the Premier League season.

Since returning from his injury, the 27-year-old has been able to return just three goal involvements in nine league games.

After the game on Tuesday, Postecoglou claimed Maddison was not nursing any issue. He said: “He’s not carrying a knock. If he was carrying a knock, he wouldn’t be playing. He’s fine, yeah.”

Spurs now have just eight games remaining in the season to earn themselves a spot in next season’s Champions League.

And it is apparent they are in danger of stuttering over the line with a real lack of consistency to their results at the moment.

Some huge games are coming up agains the current top three, games in which Spurs will need their best players playing at their absolute best.
