Report: Some at Liverpool have been really surprised by ‘extraordinary’ manager rejecting them

Liverpool have reportedly been left surprised by an ‘extraordinary’ manager rejecting them recently.

Liverpool’s hunt for a new manager continues. There are still no clear indications of who the front runner is.

Right now, the favourite seems to be Ruben Amorim, with plenty of speculations suggesting he is Liverpool’s first choice target.

However, at one point in time so was Xabi Alonso, and we have obviously seen what happened since then, with the Spaniard opting to stay at Bayer Leverkusen instead.

Replacing Klopp will not be an easy task for Liverpool. He is the kind of manager that only comes around once every so often. He is almost Bill Shankly like, and will have a mythical status at the club.

Stepping into Klopp’s shoes will be extremely difficult for anyone who dares to do it. Although it will also come with a lot of advantages.

Whoever comes in will inherit a strong squad and an exciting young team. A side who has been able to compete at the highest levels this season.

Which is why it’s so surprising that some managers have rejected the opportunity to manage Liverpool.

Which ‘extraordinary’ manager’s rejection has surprised Liverpool

According to a report by the Liverpool ECHO, some people have been left surprised by Xabi Alonso’s decision against joining the club.

Given what he has achieved at Bayer Leverkusen and how Jose Mourinho has described him as ‘extraordinary’ in the past, it seemed like a perfect evolution in his career to move to Anfield.

Especially, since Alonso has that connection with the club’s supporters. However, in the end, he decided he wanted to continue building his legacy at Leverkusen and finish what he started.

Even so, you cannot blame Liverpool for not being surprised. Alonso definitely seriously considered the club’s proposal.

It has been months since Klopp made his decision to leave Liverpool public, but it’s only now that Alonso has come out with his decision.

In between that time you would imagine there were some conversations being held, and Alonso will have thought about what he wanted to do next.

What next for Liverpool after Xabi Alonso rejection?

The ideal next candidate for Liverpool seems to be Ruben Amorim. His high-risk, high reward style is very similar to that of Jurgen Klopp.

In addition to that Amorim also has an impressive track record delivering Sporting CP’s first league title in 19 years during his time at the club.

He embraces youth and gave debuts to 25 players 21-years-old or younger since taking charge of Sporting CP. Impressively, a lot of those players were from the club’s academy.

So he’s well prepared to continue what Klopp has started this season at Liverpool. It’s disappointing that Alonso has decided the timing isn’t right for him at Liverpool. However, in Amorim the Reds definitely have an astute alternative.
