Jurgen Klopp says 23-year-old Liverpool player is ‘in contention’ to play vs Sheffield United

According to Jurgen Klopp, there is a 23-year-old midfielder who could be in contention to return from injury against Sheffield United.

The games are once again coming in thick and fast for Liverpool. After playing on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be back in action to face Sheffield United on Thursday.

It’s a game that comes just before Liverpool’s big clash with Manchester United at the weekend. It will be a match Klopp’s side will be desperate to go through unscathed to prepare for the weekend.

In Sheffield United, Liverpool will face a wounded opponent. Sheffield United are currently sitting rock bottom of the Premier League and have a poor defensive record.

They also haven’t beaten Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League since 1994. Which is almost 30 years now.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp also had some good news to share. Revealing that a 23-year-old is back from injury and in contention to feature in the game.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Curtis Jones and how long could he feature vs Sheffield United?

Speaking in his press conference Klopp said Jones was in contention to feature against Sheffield United.

“Curtis (Jones) is in full training and is in contention,” Klopp said as per the club’s official YouTube channel.

Although the Liverpool manager did not reveal whether Jones would be capable of being named in the starting XI right away. Common sense would indicate it is far more likely that Jones will only feature on the bench, considering how long he has been out.

The last time he featured for Liverpool was back in the middle of February in a 4-1 victory over Brentford.

Even so, his return is a big boost for Liverpool. Jones has been brilliant this season, and he will be needed in this last stretch of games until the end of the season.

Who else could soon return from injury at Liverpool?

Speaking in his press conference, Klopp also revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota are also nearing a return.

According to the Liverpool manager, they could be back in team training as early as next week. Not quite in time for Manchester United, but potentially ready for the games after that big clash at Old Trafford.

“Diogo (Jota) and Trent (AA), hopefully from next week in parts of team training,” Klopp said.
