Pochettino would be mad to start £50m Chelsea player tomorrow, it would be a sackable offence - opinion

What plan has Mauricio Pochettino come up with for Chelsea to beat Manchester United tomorrow?

With Chelsea having not won against United in the Premier League since 2017, it is clearly going to have to be a very good one.

Last time the two English giants met, although the scoreline was close with United winning 2-1 on the night, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men were awful.

Their defence was battered, conceding 28 shots at Old Trafford. The team as a whole need to do much better tomorrow.

Regarding the Blues’ attack, Pochettino may be tempted to make one change, but he would be crazy to.

The change Mauricio Pochettino could make

Cole Palmer will undoubtedly start this huge game against United. Pochettino recently stated that the 21-year-old is Chelsea’s best player.

Conor Gallagher has also been a favourite of the Argentine in the No.10 role. Whether he should be is a debate for another time, but there is no way that the England international will be left on the bench for such a massive occasion.

That leaves Mykhailo Mudryk on the left who is likely to make way if Pochettino does decide he wants to tweak his attack from the Burnley game, which is possible given the opposition his side are going up against.

It could be Mudryk out forRaheem Sterling, then, but that could be a huge mistake.

Why Raheem Sterling should not start for Chelsea against Manchester United tomorrow

Sterling is obviously not in the best of form right now, which is probably why Pochettino left him on the bench last time out in the first place.

But on top of that, his record against United does not make for good reading. In fact, the 29-year-old is yet to put the ball in the back of their net since becoming a professional footballer.

Mudryk was not bad for Chelsea in the 2-2 draw with Burnley, winning the Blues their penalty, however dubious it was.

He was a big investment for the club. To now drop him for an out-of-form Sterling who has never scored against United before would be a sackable offence.

Simply put, now is not the right time for Pochettino to bring the £50m winger back into the fold.
