'Did a brilliant job on him': David Moyes says £22m Tottenham player was kept really quiet last night

West Ham United boss David Moyes believes one of his players kept a Tottenham Hotspur star really quiet last night.

Spurs’ terrible run at the London Stadium continued on Tuesday. They went into the game last night without a win at West Ham‘s ground since November 2019.

Ange Postecoglou would’ve loved to change that, but his side were held to a 1-1 draw by a resilient West Ham side.

Kurt Zouma cancelled out Brennan Johnson‘s opener in the first half, and Moyes heaped praise on his defender after the game.

Tottenham actually looked sharp in the opening exchanges of the game.

Yes, they conceded a big chance to Jarrod Bowen, but almost immediately after the Englishman missed, they went down the other end and scored.

Timo Werner picked out Brennan Johnson inside the box, and the Wales international showed brilliant movement and composure to score.

Then, for whatever reason, Tottenham dropped their level. West Ham grew into the game, and Kurt Zouma’s header in the 19th minute made it 1-1.

Spurs tried hard in the second half to score. Skipper Heung-min Son, who was playing his 400th game for the club, led the line for most of the game, but he couldn’t really trouble West Ham.

The £22m (Guardian) Tottenham star had just one shot on target and registered an xG of 0.09. David Moyes was delighted with that, and he suggested after the game that Zouma’s brilliance helped keep the Tottenham captain quiet.

Moyes told BBC Match of the Day: “He [Zouma] did a brilliant job on [Son Heung-min] tonight. We wanted people to stand up. We wanted some leadership and the two centre-halves played really well tonight.

“We feel as if we dropped some points last weekend but we’ve now taken four off Tottenham this season. If you’d have told me that before the start of the season I’d have shaken your hand and walked away.”

Tottenham’s next five fixtures are really difficult

Tottenham missed a great opportunity to leapfrog Aston Villa last night.

A win with a two-goal margin would’ve seen them move to fourth in the Premier League table with a game in hand over Unai Emery‘s side.

Tottenham can only look at the future now, and there are some really difficult fixtures coming up for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Spurs host Nottingham Forest next where Nuno Espirito Santo will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since he was sacked.

Then, the North Londoners travel to St James’ Park to face Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in a fixture they lost 5-1 last season.

Tottenham’s three games after that could make or break their season. They face the top three sides in the Premier League – Manchester City and Arsenal at home followed by Liverpool at Anfield.
