'In the minority': Journalist really doesn't 'agree' with one thing that Sunderland fans are doing

Sunderland fans have been urged to stop demanding sackings after a disappointing season at Sunderland.

Sunderland‘s board and backroom staff have come under increasing pressure ever since Tony Mowbray was sacked in December.

Many supporters wanted the 60-year-old out of the door after a poor start to the campaign, however things only got worse when Kristjaan Speakman made the controversial decision to appoint Michael Beale as his successor.

There has also been a number of questionable decisions made in the Sunderland hierarchy, such as the failure to bring in a proven striker, the Black Cats bar drama against Newcastle United and the decision to appoint Mike Dodds for the rest of the season.

Speakman is one name that has been heavily criticised this term, while some supporters have also called for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to sell the club.

The first figure who was actually punished for this season’s mishaps was Steve Davison, who the club confirmed is set to leave Wearside at the end of the campaign.

Davison was reportedly at fault for the chaos that ensued prior to the Wear-Tyne derby in January and is now set to bring his stay to and this summer.

Sunderland fans urged to stop with the ‘clamour for sackings’

Many fans were delighted at the news that the COO was set to depart, however journalist Michael Graham has urged supporters to stop with the ‘clamour for sackings’.

He wrote on X: “I don’t agree with the clamour for sackings at #SAFC this summer. Speakman, Dodds, Proctor etc. The second half of the season has been a failure, but failure isn’t final and I always prefer collective accountability to blame culture. Know I will be in the minority (again) there.”

Should there be anymore exits?

Steve Davison may have made some positive changes at the club, but everyone knew that someone had to face the consequences of the disaster around the Newcastle match – and it was never going to be Louis-Dreyfus himself.

Sacking Davison is certainly papering over the cracks for the club, but there is surely no denying that Speakman is already walking a tightrope.

I agree that he should be given a chance to prove himself this summer, but at some point there has to be a final straw and we don’t want that to come when we reach the winter transfer window next season and still haven’t bought a new striker.

Fans definitely want it to work out for him and the club’s new model, but it is completely fair for them to have major doubts about how things are panning out.

For the most part, supporters have been very fair and patient with these owners, but when they are making decisions that the entire fanbase know is wrong before them, then there is reason to be concerned.
