Derby County duo nominated for EFL awards after outstanding season

Derby County have been represented on the awards front as the EFL season comes towards a thrilling conclusion.

Derby County have had a rollercoaster of a season in League One, which is far from over yet. The Rams currently sit in second place, with four games remaining to seal a potential promotion push back to the Championship.

Paul Warne has turned the team around from a slow start into genuine contenders at the top, following an excellent run of form. That’s despite a whole host of injuries impacting his squad and team selection throughout.

Four wins in their final four would seal a memorable return to the Championship, though any slip up means they will be relying on results elsewhere.

EFL Awards 2024

The EFL awards night for 2024 is just around the corner, celebrating the best of the season across the 72 clubs. From the Championship to League Two, there are nominations for every division that includes representation for managers, players, youngsters and employees at clubs.

Derby County award nominees

Derby County have two players named as nominees for the upcoming EFL awards night. The first of which is Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who features in the running for the League One player of the season, alongside Peterborough’s Harrison Burrows and Portsmouth’s Marlon Pack.

The forward has eight goals and 16 assists for the Rams across 42 appearances this campaign, underlining his importance to the squad. He is the only first-team representative of Derby, with Paul Warne missing out on a nomination for manager of the season and Eiran Cashin not nominated for young player of the season.

There is another Derby nominee though, in the shape of young striker Dajaune Brown. The 18-year-old is up for the League One apprentice of the season against Northampton’s Reuben Wyatt and Cheltenham’s Tom King.

Brown has enjoyed a successful loan spell with Gateshead in the National League, bagging six goals in 14 appearances.

Derby County targets

The award nominations are representative of a club getting back to where they want to be. Derby County struggled for a while after ownership troubles, but now find themselves amongst the shining examples in the EFL.

While the Rams will be more focused on earning promotion to the Championship, individual awards would certainly be welcomed. In the case of Brown, it also shows a promising future for the young striker.
