'Unreal': Sheffield Wednesday ace shares what really impressed him despite Middlesbrough defeat

Bambo Diaby has taken to social media to address Sheffield Wednesday fans after their disappointing defeat to Middlesbrough.

Sheffield Wednesday could well have clawed their way out of the relegation zone and beyond over the bank holiday, having taken on Swansea City and Middlesbrough.

The Swans had only won two of their previous nine away matches, while Boro had won one of their last seven games on home turf.

Their records didn’t help the Owls out though and they only managed one point on Good Friday, before falling to a dismal 2-0 defeat against Michael Carrick’s side.

It leaves them still in 23rd place and only two points from safety, but they now only have six games left to rescue their status in the second tier.

Bambo Diaby impressed by ‘unreal’ fans

While many of his teammates stayed silent on social media, Bambo Diaby made sure to publicly appreciate the support they received at the Riverside Stadium.

Writing on X, the defender said: “Your support was unreal and I’m disappointed we did not get the win you deserved. 6 finals to go. Nothing’s over!!!!”

Bambo Diaby has started three of Sheffield Wednesday’s last five games in the Championship, having been recalled after the 6-0 hammering to Ipswich.

Should Diaby start v QPR?

The Spaniard managed only one tackle and one header against Boro, though did look much better just days earlier against the Swans.

Diaby has shown a lot of commitment and passion to keeping the Owls up, but perhaps he should be benched for some of the final run-in.

The 26-year-old was on the bench for most of Sheffield Wednesday’s brilliant run in February/March, while Liam Palmer or Dominic Iorfa could provide a lot more experience and reliability in this intense situation.

Though we can certainly expect Di’Shon Bernard to come back into the frame when fit anyway, so Diaby may have to settle for a place in the dugout for now.
