Journalist shares the 'important' role Jurgen Klopp will play in Liverpool's new manager announcement

It’s tough to think about for Liverpool fans, but it’s almost time to wave auf wiedersehen to Jurgen Klopp.

The legendary manager now has at most 14 games left in charge of the Reds. Klopp has a maximum of five home games in front of his adoring fans at Anfield.

After almost nine years at the helm, there’s no question that Jurgen has earned his place amongst Liverpool’s many icons. He’s delivered just about every trophy possible and has brought some incredible players to the club. But all good things must end, and Klopp’s finale is almost upon us.

What comes next at Liverpool is certain to be a step down. There’s apparently only one manager who can mimic Jurgen, and he isn’t coming. However, the new man will be given time and backing by both the owners and the fans.

We’re still waiting to see who exactly that will be, with the need to nail things down getting closer. And when the time does eventually come to officially announce who will succeed him, Klopp will reportedly play a part.

Jurgen Klopp to play part in manager announcement

Klopp has already declared that he wants nothing to do with the process of appointing his replacement. As far as the 56-year-old sees it, it isn’t any of his business.

However, that doesn’t mean that he won’t have some kind of say in things surrounding the appointment.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the current manager will very much be involved in deciding when the general public will be told of who the next head coach will be.

Writing in The Daily Briefing, Jacobs reports that once Liverpool have made a decision on their new boss, they’ll liaise with Klopp to work out the timing of an announcement.

“Liverpool are calm about their search and will very much carry it out on their own terms,” explains the journalist. “Once they have a manager locked in, when they choose to announce it will also depend on the manager and their club and, as importantly, Klopp.

“The club plan to finalise Klopp’s replacement before the season ends, but a public announcement will be timed so as not to overshadow Klopp’s farewell or disrupt a season where Liverpool are still fighting on three fronts.”

Liverpool to wait on official announcement

From our point of view, we’re not really sure exactly when the best time to announce something like this is. Of course, it really depends a lot on when things are finalised.

Clearly, unless Liverpool are being incredibly discreet, nothing has been sorted out just yet. That doesn’t leave an awful lot of time between now and the end of the season in which to work out the perfect timing.

With that in mind, it probably feels best to let the cat out of the bag once the season is concluded. That way Liverpool can say a proper goodbye to Jurgen without having eyes already on the future.

But being the straightforward man that he is, you could imagine Klopp giving the green light for Liverpool to announce it as soon as they’re ready. There’s a lot of moving parts here though, so maybe we shouldn’t expect to be in the know anytime soon.
