Kevin Keatts wants Denzel Washington or Jamie Foxx to play him in movie

NC State and head coach Kevin Keatts are enjoying the March Madness ride of a lifetime, from down at halftime in the first round of the ACC Tournament as its 10-seed all the way to the Final Four, needing to win nine straight games to keep their season alive.

A story like the Wolfpack’s may garner attention from Hollywood, and a movie could very well be made about the extraordinary month NC State just had and the run they’re still on. If this wild ride was fit for cinematic production, reporters had one question for Kevin Keatts at his press conference ahead of the Final Four: Who should play him in a potential movie?

Keatts had one quick answer off the top of his head:

“Well, I know who I would love to play, but by that time they make the movie, it’ll be too late. It’s, hey man, Denzel Washington is the coolest dude ever, you know, so maybe I got to pick somebody a little younger. But if he could play, if anybody could pull it off, it would be him, it would be definitely Denzel Washington. He’d be the great.”

Denzel is obviously no stranger to playing a coach’s role, having starred as the memorable Herman Boone character, head coach of T.C. Williams in Remember The Titans. He may not need to bring that level of intensity to play Coach Keatts, but it’s a worthy selection by the NC State leader.

However, since Keatts himself noted that Denzel could be too old to play him by the time a film is in production, he also likes another younger actor.

“You can always go back to a guy like Jamie Foxx and, you know, have you seen the things on the internet about him acting like a football coach? I think that was great.”

So we can expect Kevin Keatts portrayed by either Jamie Foxx or Denzel Washington? Certainly some terrific choices. But what about some of the other cast members on this run, like DJ Burns.

You’re not finding a nearly-seven-foot guy who weighs close to 300 pounds in most acting classes. But perhaps a young Forrest Whitaker? Like, Fast Times at Ridgemont High Forrest Whittaker, when he looked like a mammoth as the school football star compared to other high schoolers. That’s not realistic in 2024 but it’s hard to find a good comp.

Either way, here’s to hoping DJ Burns gets asked the same question at Keatts so we can hear who’d he prefer to play him in a movie.
