PS Plus April 2024 Extra and Premium games get two early day one release announcements

Sony has confirmed that Dave the Diver and Tales of Kenzera: Zau will both be arriving as free day one releases for PS Plus Extra and Premium this month.

While we're not expecting to hear what's set to be included in the PS Plus Extra and Premium April 2024 games until next week, Sony has decided to give players an early look at two day one releases coming to PS Plus this month. The PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup will be announced on Wednesday, April 10 and release the following week on Tuesday, April 16 however, we now know thanks to a post on the PlayStation Blog, that one of the games arriving on that day is 2023's indie smash Dave the Diver. Originally launching on PC last June, with a Nintendo Switch release arriving shortly after, Dave the Diver is finally making its way to PS4 and PS5 on Tuesday, April 16.

The game follows the titular diver as he searches the sea by day, and brings his findings home at night to help run his sushi restaurant. Dave the Diver features a number of minigames to break up the action, and recently has started to branch out into other crossovers, the first with 2023's other big fishing game Dredge, launched late last year, while a second DLC featuring none other than Godzilla is set to arrive next month.

Zau'll about you

The other addition we know about it a bit unconventional. Rather than arriving alongside the rest of the PS Plus Extra and Premium games, Sony has confirmed Tales of Kenzera: Zau will be arriving free for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers a week later when it launches on Tuesday, April 23 and is directed by Abubakar Salim – perhaps best known for his role as Bayek in Assassin's Creed Origins.

Tales on Kenzera: ZAU tells the story of a young shaman who seeks to make offerings to the god of death in order to revive his father, with Salim saying the story is based on his own experiences in losing his father. He said in an interview with GamesRadar that even the genre choice of making a Metroidvania is in service of telling the tale of grief, saying "You take a character, you throw them into a world they have no idea about... and they have to, somehow, make sense of it". While it'll undoubtedly be an emotional journey, it's looking to be a solid Metroidvania as well.
