‘Could see’: Phil Foden shares what happened in the Man City dressing room after Brentford defeat last season

Phil Foden has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what he saw in the Manchester City dressing room after last season’s home defeat to Brentford.

Back in November 2022, in their final Premier League game before the World Cup in Qatar, the Citizens were beaten by Brentford at home with a 2-1 scoreline.

Now though, one player from Pep Guardiola’s squad, who scored City’s only goal in the game, has shed some light on what the reaction to this defeat was.

Speaking in the second episode of the Together: Treble Winners documentary series on Netflix, Foden had this to say about the Brentford defeat.

He said: “We spoke about it before the game, going into the World Cup with a win and having that peace of mind but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.

“I could see the disappointment in everyone’s face when we came in from losing. It was like we have to wait so long against to play in a City shirt and make it right.”

The Blues found themselves 1-0 down in the 16th minute of the game thanks to Bees striker Ivan Toney.

After then having two penalty claims turned down by VAR, City managed to equalise on the stroke of halftime thanks to Foden.

However, a second goal from Toney in injury time secured the victory for Thomas Frank’s side and left City with a big disappointment as they headed into the World Cup break.

With this being their first home defeat of the campaign, it’s understandable why the City players were not only disappointed with the result but also frustrated by the fact that the World Cup break made them unable to get back to winning ways straightaway.

Having then gone on to win the league, everyone at the club can now look back and say that their defeat against the Bees or the World Cup thankfully didn’t dismantle their campaign.
