'Class and composure': Pat Nevin blown away last night by 24-year-old PL player linked with Chelsea

Chelsea are linked with numerous different attackers to sign ahead of this summer’s transfer window. Interestingly, one Blues target grabbed the attention of Pat Nevin last night for the right reasons.

Our feeling, like a lot of the fanbase, is that Chelsea do need to go out and sign a prolific striker at the next opportunity if it’s financially viable.

We must give credit to young forward Nicolas Jackson for his efforts so far in his debut year at Stamford Bridge, scoring 12 goals across all competitions. Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku has spent most of the season watching from the sidelines because of injury.

It could look very different for Mauricio Pochettino’s side if they had a prolific frontman. They’re certainly relying on playmaker Cole Palmer far too heavily right now.

Premier League striker linked with Chelsea

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who’s having a superb individual season, has been mentioned in some transfer rumours alongside Chelsea this year.

First of all, FootballTransfers reported back in January that the Blues were eyeing Isak as a potential target.

There’s a chance Newcastle may need to sell high-profile names to stay on the right side of financial rules.

SportsLens has now claimed this week that Chelsea are more likely to show interest in signing Newcastle’s £100m-rated striker Isak than Arsenal or Tottenham.

Alexander Isak shines again yesterday

Isak leads the line so well as the Newcastle No 9, something that in itself brings a lot of pressure.

The Swedish attacker produced a great finessed finish on Tuesday night during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw at home to Everton in the Premier League.

He’s now up to 19 goals in only 32 games this season across all competitions.

BBC pundit Pat Nevin was blown away by the quality of the Chelsea transfer target last night:

“One thing that Newcastle have got that Everton haven’t is that bit of class and composure up front, and Alexander Isak has delivered that for them again here,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live (7:51pm, 2 April).

“He had so much to do there when he won the ball. He took the ball around a couple of defenders, who you could argue could have done better, and when he gets in the box you know he can’t be touched.

“When that is the case you always feel like he’ll get a shot off and he did, passes the ball into the bottom corner.”
