Will Buxton says 25-year-old F1 driver hates doing interviews more than anyone else on the grid

Will Buxton has picked out the one F1 driver who enjoys being interviewed less than anybody else.

Buxton is part of the presenting team for F1TV, the sport’s official broadcasting service.

And appearing on the Red Flags Podcast, he was asked a series of quickfire questions about his experience in the paddock.

The 43-year-old has been a recognised member of the media since 2010 and worked for Speed and NBC Sports before taking on his current role.

The Englishman also features in Netflix’s Drive to Survive series, offering his take on the events of the season in interviews.

At one point, he angered then-Racing Point driver Sergio Perez after heavily criticising his performance at the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix.

He said he ‘looked like a rookie’ when colliding with teammate Esteban Ocon and Williams driver Sergey Sirotkin.

Perez privately challenged Buxton for his remarks after the release of the series.

Will Buxton says Lance Stroll hates interviews the most

When asked which driver ‘hates’ being interviewed the most from his point of view, Buxton simply answered: “Lance Stroll.”

On the flip side, he said Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was the most enthusiastic behind a microphone.

RB driver Daniel Ricciardo would have been his answer, but for his ‘horror-show’ start to the 2024 season.

Stroll remains one of the younger drivers on the grid at 25 but he’s already a veteran of 146 Grands Prix.

Back in 2017, when he joined the F1 grid at Williams, he became the second-youngest driver in the sport’s history after Max Verstappen.

How many podiums does Lance Stroll have?

Stroll has scored three podiums so far in his career, the last of which came at the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020.

Teammate Perez won that race, with Stroll pouncing for a podium after George Russell, standing in for an unwell Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, fell victim to a pit-stop blunder and a puncture.

Earlier in the year, the Canadian had finished third in a chaotic race in Italy that saw AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly beat McLaren’s Sainz to the finish.

His maiden podium came in his debut season in Azerbaijan when the field was mixed up by three safety cars and numerous collisions.

Stroll also has a pole position to his name, achieved at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, but he’s been driving under perennial pressure at Aston Martin.

Father Lawrence owns the team, but former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if he was replaced.

Journalist Joe Saward doesn’t believe that Stroll is either ‘fast enough or motivated enough’ to win a race.

Like teammate Fernando Alonso, he’s out of contract at the end of the current season.
