'As far as I'm aware': Journalist shares what he's been told about QSI with Tottenham speaking with investors

Journalist Tom Barclay has shared what someone with connections to Qatar Sports Investments has informed him following the news that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with potential investors.

Tottenham have now reported losses of £86.6 million in their accounts for the 2022/23 season. The good news for Spurs fans is that they are not at risk of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Spurs have been the envy of many clubs in recent years. Tottenham arguably now have the best stadium in the world. Certainly, there appears to be few better facilities in the Premier League.

On the pitch, Tottenham provided an indication of the strong position they find themselves in with the January signings of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. Spurs put most of their top-flight rivals to shame by managing to do two significant deals in the winter window.

But of course, Tottenham are looking to take that next step and elevate themselves back into contention for Premier League and Champions League glory.

Tottenham in talks with potential investors

With that, Spurs have confirmed that they are speaking to potential investors. And some may have wondered whether there are any talks with QSI going on.

Previously, QSI have reportedly shown interest in purchasing a £1 billion stake in the club.

But speaking on The Tottenham Way, Tom Barclay claimed that the majority owners of Paris Saint-Germain are not thought to be one of those around the negotiating table right now.

“It was confirmed in that that Spurs are in talks with unnamed investors. I’m told that it’s not to do with a full sale of the club. They’re not looking to do that, to anyone hoping that Daniel Levy and ENIC are moving on anytime soon, it doesn’t seem that that’s likely to happen,” he said.

“The line has always been that the club would be up for sale if there’s an appropriate bid. But I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon. They’re just looking for extra investment. It’s unclear who exactly they’re talking to.

“Someone I know who deals with the Qataris, who obviously were interested a couple of years ago, QSI, but that never happened, and as far as I’m aware, there’s no going back to them since. So I don’t think it’s those guys.”

Spurs fans will welcome chance to accelerate progress

Tottenham fans will welcome an investment which boosts their chances of success on the pitch. Of course, football is unfortunately littered with poor owners who leave clubs in a worse state than they found them. But, for all his flaws, Levy has run Tottenham brilliantly from a business perspective.

So adding additional investment to what is already there is only likely to help.

There have been positive signs under Ange Postecoglou this season. They appear to be moving in the right direction after some really disappointing years.

And Tottenham may feel that fresh investment will accelerate that process.
