'He's a brilliant player': Robbie Savage left stunned by £30m Arsenal man against Luton tonight

On what proved to be quite a comfortable evening for Arsenal against Luton Town tonight, Robbie Savage was wowed by one performance.

Mikel Arteta decided that changes were needed on what could have proved to be a nervy evening against a spirited Rob Edwards side.

The likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey took a minute or two to find their rhythm and touch, but all in all, the game never really presented any jeopardy.

Arsenal won at something of a canter, and Arteta must have been delighted with the amount of control his side had throughout.

Perhaps there was one eye on the weekend’s tough trip to Brighton & Hove Albion in Arteta’s team selection, a decision that fortunately didn’t come back to haunt him.

That being said, the Arsenal boss did keep some of his most trusted players in the eleven, the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Kai Havertz.

But it was the captain Martin Odegaard who amazed Robbie Savage with his Arsenal performance tonight.

Analysing the game for TNT Sports, Savage was amazed by the leadership Odegaard showed.

Odegaard combined superbly with Havertz for Arsenal’s opening goal, a duo that had an air of seniority about them tonight.

And Robbie Savage praised almost every aspect of the Arsenal captain’s display tonight.

He simply said: “He’s a brilliant player, Odegaard, isn’t he. Such a good player, so composed, such a leader. You know he’s got the first goal tonight as well.”

It was a performance full of responsibility from the £30m-midfielder, who proved once again that his importance to the side is still slightly underrated.

That being said, Robbie Savage did hand his player of the match award to Emile Smith Rowe who also had a fine evening.

The England midfielder looked slightly rusty at first as mentioned, but then played a key role in both goals.

It’s going to be tough for Smith Rowe to force himself into Arteta’s strongest Arsenal XI in the final few months of the season, but he certainly couldn’t do too much more tonight.

And if anything, the 23-year-old proved what an excellent signing he’ll make for any future club, if that regrettable situation ever arrives.
