Cambridge City ship eight more goals in back-to-back league games

Cambridge City continued to ship goals at an alarming rate over the Easter period.

A 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Bedworth United on Saturday was followed up 48 hours later by a 4-0 reverse on the road at Corby Town.

Robbie Nightingale’s side have now shipped four goals in four of their last five Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division outings, during which time they have conceded a total of 18 goals.

By the time that Stefan Broccoli scored against Bedworth, a brace from Liam Murphy had put the visitors in control.

Murphy went on to complete his hat-trick and while City skipper Taylor Parr reduced the arrears for a second time, the outcome was put beyond doubt by Christopher Cox’s 79th-minute goal.

Those two losses have seen the Lilywhites drop to 17th in the table with a seven-point buffer to the relegation zone with four games remaining.

City will aim to halt their five-game sequence without a victory on Saturday (6 April) when they welcome Boldmere St Michaels to Westwood Road.

Boldmere won the reverse fixture 4-0, which featured a hat-trick from Owen Parry.
