'I'm going to go': Rio Ferdinand has just predicted the result of Manchester United vs Liverpool this weekend

Manchester United host Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, and Rio Ferdinand has just revealed his prediction for the game.

The two fierce rivals are aiming for different things this season.

Liverpool are fighting for the title along with Manchester City and Arsenal, while Manchester United‘s goal of finishing in the top four is slowly fading away.

A win for the Red Devils this weekend, however, could change their fortunes, but it will be very difficult, even though the game is at Old Trafford.

Rio Ferdinand predicts Manchester United vs Liverpool result

Rio Ferdinand played many games for Manchester United against Liverpool back in the day.

The Englishman came out on top more often than not as well, and he knows what it takes to win this high-pressure game, especially at Old Trafford.

Everyone in Manchester United’s current team experienced that feeling not too long ago.

The Red Devils knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup last month with a dramatic win in extra time, and Erik ten Hag will be hoping for a repeat of that on Sunday.

Ferdinand came on as a guest on the Stick to Football podcast this week, and he was asked to predict the result of the big game this weekend.

The Manchester United legend hailed Liverpool and declared them the favourites, but he refused to predict a win for Jurgen Klopp‘s side.

“The problem with United, you don’t know what (United side) is going to turn up. Even the other day, when they beat Liverpool, Liverpool lost that game more than Man United won that.

“I think Liverpool have got a bit between their teeth and there’s a consistency with the way they’re playing that makes them favourites, I think, even at Old Trafford.

“But, I’m going to go for a draw. I’m going to go for a 1-1.”

Manchester United’s last five results against Liverpool at Old Trafford

Manchester United will definitely go into the game against Liverpool on Sunday as the underdogs.

Erik ten Hag’s side have had a really underwhelming season. They are nine points behind fifth-place Tottenham at the time of writing.

However, Liverpool don’t have the greatest recent record at Old Trafford, do they?

As we said above, Jurgen Klopp’s men ended up losing 4-3 in the FA Cup last month. The previous meeting between the two sides at Old Trafford finished 2-1 in favour of the hosts in August 2022.

Liverpool humiliated Manchester United in the game before that, in October 2021, smashing five past the Red Devils in their own backyard.

In the two meetings prior to that, Liverpool picked up a 4-2 win and Manchester United managed to beat their fierce rivals 3-2.

In terms of head-to-heads at Old Trafford between the two sides in their last five meetings, Manchester United have won more games. They should use that as motivation going into Sunday.
