Aston Villa now rank first in the Premier League for impressive feat that Man City can't even match

Aston Villa will be disappointed to have lost 4-1 to Manchester City last night however, there is one thing that Unai Emery’s side is outperforming the champions at.

Aston Villa walked away from the Etihad with no points and having conceded four goals on what was a night to forget against Manchester City.

Unai Emery fielded a heavily rotated side to go up against the champions, making six changes to the squad that started against Wolves last week.

A goal from Jhon Duran was the only positive to take from the fixture, as the brilliance of Phil Foden stole the headlines in Manchester.

While the Villans will be hurt to have lost in such a manner, the Midlands club will be eager to bounce back against Brentford, to ensure their stellar season continues on Saturday.

What Aston Villa are doing better than anyone else in the Premier League

The defeat to Manchester City shouldn’t be dwelled on too heavily by Emery’s squad, with there still being plenty to play for before the 2023/24 calendar closes.

European silverware and a shot at securing a top-four Premier League finish remains a strong possibility in what has been an impressive campaign for Villa.

Setting aside Villa’s league position and performances throughout the season, statistics now reveal just how strong Emery’s side has been this term, sitting at the top of the pile in one area.

As relayed by TheOther14, no team has dropped fewer points from winning positions than Aston Villa this campaign, who have dropped just three points from the 19 games they’ve been ahead this season in the league.

Below Villa are Liverpool who have dropped four, with Arsenal in fifth having dropped nine points, and Manchester City in sixth having dropped 10, telling of Villa’s strength.

Aston Villa’s improvement this season should be commended regardless of where they finish

While all the pressure will rightly be on whether Villa can qualify for the Champions League and maintain a strong run in the Europa Conference League, nothing should take away from the work Emery has done this campaign.

Given how well Villa perform as a unit, it’s easy to forget that this is the Spaniard’s first full season in charge of the club, reinforcing just how much of an impact he’s made in such a short time.

When the former Arsenal boss took charge, the Villans were sat down in 16th place, making this term’s improvement a cause for celebration in itself.

With seven games to go in the Premier League, all focus will be on not letting their position slip when it comes to leading the way for their ability to hold leads.
