Cambridge United set to be without Michael Morrison and Lyle Taylor for Sky Bet League One clash at Blackpool

Cambridge United are set to be without captain Michael Morrison and experienced striker Lyle Taylor for Saturday’s Sky Bet League One trip to Blackpool.

Centre-back Morrison missed the two victories over the Easter weekend with a knee injury.

And while this weekend’s clash at Bloomfield Road is likely to come too soon, head coach Garry Monk is hopeful that the 36-year-old will be available for Charlton Athletic’s visit to the Cledara Abbey Stadium on 13 April.

Monk said: “He’s still feeling his niggle. It’s only a niggle but it’s still a little bit sore around his knee.

“He’s probably doubtful for this weekend but we’re confident he’ll be in some sort of training by the end of this week.

“We’re looking more towards the Charlton game than this week.”

Taylor, meanwhile, was forced off during the Good Friday victory at Barnsley with a groin complaint.

A scan has shown no significant damage, but the striker is still struggling with some pain.

Monk added: “Lyle has tweaked his groin. It’s going to go a little bit on how he feels and how it settles down.

“It’s very sore so it’s not going to be this week. There’s a possibility of next week (against Charlton), but it’s probably touch and go for that.

“Hopefully the worst case scenario is it will be the week after that, but with those types of injuries, you can’t say it’s grade three this or that type of strain. It will come down to symptoms and a little bit of feeling.”
