Sheffield Wednesday now 'looking to offer' deals to two more gems ahead of the summer - journalist

Two more Sheffield Wednesday players now look set for new contracts ahead of the summer.

Despite not knowing their fate in the Championship this season, it seems like Sheffield Wednesday are already thinking ahead to the summer.

At the end of this season, up to 18 players will leave Hillsborough.

And so the hierarchy have got to work on securing the future of several of their players, starting with the youngsters.

Sheffield Wednesday youngsters out of contract

Sheffield Wednesday have a horde of first-team players out of contract this summer, and several out of contract in the youth sides too.

It’s recently been revealed that young duo Luke Cook and Adam Alimi-Adetoro will leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

But it’s also come to light that Sam Reed looks set to be handed a new contract extension, whilst fellow youngsters Joey Phuthi and Favour Onukwuli are also in line for new contracts.

And two more youngsters are also in line for new contracts, as per latest reports.

Devlan Moses and Bruno Fernandes set for new Sheffield Wednesday contracts

Journalist Joe Crann has now revealed on X that Owls duo Devlan Moses and Bruno Fernandes are in line for professional contracts at Hillsborough ahead of next season.

Fernandes in particular has caught the eye of fans this season; not only for his name, but a recent overhead kick he scored for the development team.

The two players, both aged 18, are now approaching the end of their two-year scholarship deals with Sheffield Wednesday.

Crann posted on X:

Danny Rohl plans for future

Danny Rohl, almost immediately after taking the Sheffield Wednesday job, spoke about bridging the gap between the youth teams and the first-team.

And he’s since done that, bringing in Bailey Cadamarteri, as well as handing chances to the likes of Phuthi, Piece Charles, and Gui Siqueira too.

This wave of contracts for some of the club’s impressive younger players also suggests that Rohl wants to continue bleeding in the younger players at Middlewood.

Rohl has recently been linked with Sunderland, who are set to appoint a new manager this summer.

But addressing the Sunderland rumours, Rohl continued to speak about his vision for Wednesday.

He said:

“What can you say? I can say that at the moment I am very happy here at Sheffield Wednesday. I enjoy the club and the supporters. I know how strong the relationship is and this is a key point for me as well. I have a good group here around me and I know what I want to do here. I know what we have to do in the summer to make a step forward. There are other things.”

So next season, and especially so if the Owls are relegated, we could see a lot more players making the step up to the first-team.

If Wednesday fail to keep most of their out of contract players then whoever the manager is will arguably need to promote youth, as Dejphon Chansiri surely won’t spend too much in the transfer market.

Sheffield Wednesday return to Championship action with a crunch match away at QPR on Saturday afternoon.

Kick off is at 3pm.
