NATO allies can provide Ukraine with more assistance to de-occupy the territories. Otherwise, the situation in the country may become even more dangerous, says NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
According to Stoltenberg, they have seen not only how Russia is now pushing along the frontline and how it is mobilizing more troops but also how it is willing to sacrifice men and military equipment. That is why mobilizing support for Ukraine is urgent.
According to him, there are two possible scenarios. The first is that NATO allies can provide assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian army can regain more territory. The other scenario is that they are not able to do so. Then Ukraine will lose even more territory, and the situation in Ukraine may become even more dangerous.
He said that to achieve long-term peace in Ukraine, it is necessary to ensure the strong armed forces in Ukraine. NATO is confident that Ukraine can make further progress, so it needs to act vigorously to provide even more support.
A fund worth $100 billion
On Tuesday, April 2, Bloomberg reported that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed to create a $100 billion fund of allied contributions to help Ukraine for five years.
Such a decision may be made at the NATO summit on July 9-11 in Washington.
Stoltenberg, commenting on the rumors in the media, refused to disclose details and said only that Ukraine needs more money.
At the same time, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, reacting to the initiative, said that national contributions should be taken into account within the fund.
