Field Yates explains why New York Jets could draft Brock Bowers

Field Yates believes that former Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers will head to the Big Apple this fall. The ESPN NFL insider recently released his second mock draft and explained why he has Bowers going to the New York Jets at No. 10 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“If I were the Jets, I would be taking an offensive tackle to add some insurance to the offensive line. But I think this GM and head coach understanding the make-or-break nature of this season say ‘We must plug a gap,’ that would be Brock Bowers,” Yates said on the SportsCenter Special: Field Yates’ NFL Mock Draft 2.0 show. “He can certainly help his team in a major way.”

In Yates’ mock draft, he wrote that it would be “very much appealing” for the Jets to take an offensive tackle since Aaron Rodgers is turning 41 years old in December. But Bowers is “a difference-making tight end who would complement star wideout Garrett Wilson and recently signed Mike Williams. He would thrive with no shortage of run-after-catch opportunities.”

Is Brock Bowers a tight end or wide receiver

What makes Bowers interesting is he’s officially a tight end, but some NFL teams consider him a wide receiver. Before the start of the 2023 college football season, Bowers talked about not being worried about playing a certain position.

“Wherever the coaches put me and trust me to help the team win, I’ll do it,” Bowers said, per the Associated Press. “If that’s at running back or receiver or tight end, wherever they want me, I’ll go. I don’t pay much attention to it.”

Bowers also talked about what has made him an elite player. “I feel like ever since I was younger, I just always wanted to be, at least try to be, the best,” he said. “I feel like that’s what really pushed me. I don’t know. It’s just kind of always been there, I guess. I try to outwork the person next to me.”

Yates isn’t the only ESPN personality that is high on Bowers. Mel Kiper Jr. also has Bowers going to the Jets in his latest mock draft.

“He could be in line to be Rookie of the Year in the NFL if he goes to the right team and the right quarterback,” Kiper said on ESPN’sFirst Draft Show. “I love Brock Bowers. I loved him when he came to Georgia. He was an immediate impact performer.”
