Tina Malone looked devastated as she said goodbye to her husband Paul Chase - who died suddenly last month at the age of 42.
The 61-year-old soap actress was devastated in March when Paul, who was 19 years her junior, passed away, 14 years after they had tied the knot. On Thursday, the mum-of-two bid farewell to her husband as he was laid to rest in Liverpool. Tina looked solemn and was dressed in black as she prepared to bury her husband.
She wore a black outfit, a black hat and a refined fur coat as the funeral and ceremony took place amid seasonable spring weather. Tina’s late husband Paul had served in the Armed Forces and his Cheshire Regiment hat was placed on top of the coffin as mourners gathered to pay their respects.
Former Shameless star Tina directed the line of mourners from her house - with family, friends, and fellow members of Paul’s regiment returning out and with many in the group wearing regimental ties. While many other guests wore dark and sombre colours as they helped Tina say goodbye to her beloved husband - who she married in 2010.
Photos obtained by the MailOnline showed pallbearers carrying Paul's coffin at his funeral in the coastal city. Many of the pallbearers appeared to be from Paul's regiment - with the men proudly wearing their medals on their suits as they carried him to his final resting place.
The funeral comes after Tina took to social media to thank fans and friends for sending her comforting words in the wake of her sad news. She wrote online last month: "I am totally overwhelmed at the cards, flowers, messages, calls, txts, emails iV received from friends,family,colleagues,Paul’s army brothers,it’s a great comfort for us,I will reply to everyone soon as I am able to,the support and kindness on here to has deeply touched me too xx."
On Wednesday 13 March 2024, the former soap star made the shock announcement that Paul had died. She shared the news via social media, writing on X: “It’s with total heartbreak I write this my husband Paul Chase Malone passed away this morning we are totally devastated.” Fans rallied around the star as they shared condolences. One wrote in response: “I am so sorry for your heartbreaking loss. My thoughts are with you and Flame." And another typed: "Oh Tina, that's so sad. I'm sorry to hear that. Take lots of time and be kind to yourself."
While a statement was also shared from Paul’s regiment, writing on Facebook: “We have received the very sad news that Paul 'Chevy' Chase died yesterday at the age of 42. Paul was married to the actress Tina Malone. RIP Paul. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Tina and Paul’s romance was shaken in 2019 with the pair announcing they were splitting up - with the ex-Brookside star demanding a divorce. She wrote online at the time: “With great sadness, I wrote this myself and Paul have split up after 11 yrs together!” However, they later reconciled - amid reports Paul’s mental health had improved after he had found work with the armed services.
Opening up to Closer magazine following their reconciliation, Tina said: “The love never went away… We’re working on things now. Our problems were compounded by depression, but I’ve learned that, in tough times, you have to pull together and not apart.” Tina and Paul welcomed a daughter named Flame together who arrived in 2013 when the TV star was aged 50. Tina has an older daughter from a previous relationship.
