Another club now enters race to sign Arsenal ace, he could join former Hale End prodigy

Arsenal could be set for several sales this summer, and a number of fringe players have been linked with moves away.

Reiss Nelson could be on his way out, having failed to grasp the opportunity provided by a rare start against Luton Town on Wednesday, and Eddie Nketiah has fallen so down the pecking order at Arsenal that he did not even start at the Emirates.

Nketiah has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, whilst other Premier League sides have emerged as possible destinations.

Championship side Leicester City have now thrown their hat into the ring for his signature, but there could be problems.

A report from Football Transfers has now claimed that Leicester are keen on Nketiah as a replacement for club legend Jamie Vardy, who looks set to leave this summer.

However, with Leicester now potentially throwing away an automatic promotion spot from the Championship, and also facing financial punishment no matter what league they end up in, a big-money deal could be hard to do.

There seems to be little chance that Nketiah would join them should they fail to come up from the Championship, but a move would see him link up with former Arsenal youngster Stephy Mavididi.

Nketiah and Mavididi played together at youth level, but after Arsene Wenger’s final season, Mavidid made a disastrous move to Juventus, before finding his feet at Montpellier and later moving to Leicester.

The 25-year-old has thrived in the Championship this season, with 11 goals and five assists in 39 games, and he could form a deadly partnership in attack with Nketiah.

It is unclear what kind of fee Leicester could offer for the striker, but it does seem inevitable that the £100k-a-week star will leave this summer.

Arsenal look set to sign another striker, and this would push Nketiah, who has not started in 2024, even further down the pecking order.

Nketiah is a player who could thrive in a counter-attacking system, but he did recently admit that it has been hard to adapt his game to work well under Arteta.
