Virgil van Dijk and Conor Bradley so impressed by 25-year-old Liverpool player's display vs Sheffield United

Liverpool got out of jail a little last night as they recovered from a sloppy performance to beat Sheffield United.

Having been gifted a goal in the first-half, the Reds failed to punish United further, and were eventually pegged back.

As it often does though, the Anfield crowd rallied around their team and roared them on to get the decisive goals.

In the end, it was Alexis Mac Allister – who else – who came up trumps, slamming home a screamer that left Jurgen Klopp to single him out on the pitch at full-time.

Cody Gakpo also weighed in, putting the game to bed with a lovely little header in injury time. But it was Mac Allister who rightfully the toast of his teammates after the game.

Liverpool players impressed by teammate

When Liverpool need a goal or a big moment, they often look to Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has been their de facto talisman for years now.

However, with Salah substituted at 1-1 – and not looking too happy about that – the Reds couldn’t rely on him last night.

Instead, they turned to a man who’s growing in influence by the game. Although Salah got the winning goal against Brighton on Sunday, it was Mac Allister who was lauded for it. His clever pass summed up the subtle genius of Liverpool’s No.10.

There was certainly nothing subtle about his blast in front of the Kop last night, but it again showcased just how important Mac Allister now is to this team.

His teammates can see it, too. After the Argentine took to Instagram to share his delight from last night, both Virgil van Dijk and Conor Bradley, amongst others, left their tributes.

Bradley posted a ‘bullseye’ emoji along with a big red heart, while Van Dijk went with a ‘blowing’ emoji to signify how impressed he was. Dominik Szoboszlai was in there too, although we’re not sure how much his ‘Finally’ comment will be appreciated!

Alexis Mac Allister takes the acclaim

What more can you say about Mac Allister at this point. The former Brighton man has been absolutely sensational for Liverpool recently.

His thunderbolt last night made it 10 goal contributions in his last 11 games for the Reds. In a title run-in, that is invaluable.

You can see that Mac Allister’s teammates love to play alongside him and he’s now turned into one of Liverpool’s key players.

We knew he was good when we signed him, we were sure he’d bring a lot to the squad. But we didn’t envisage Macca having this big of an impact. Long may it continue.
