‘Beautiful to watch’: Mikel Arteta says 32-year-old Arsenal let go was such an amazing player

Arsenal have had some wonderfully talented midfield players over the years.

From Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla all the way to Martin Odegaard, Arsenal have had some incredibly technical midfielders in their time.

However, perhaps the most naturally talented midfielder Arsenal have seen in recent years is Jack Wilshere.

The 32-year-old, sadly, had to cut his career short after injuries led to a lack of gametime, and, ultimately, a release from Arsenal before a tough spell at West Ham.

While Wilshere’s career didn’t quite go to plan, the midfielder did leave behind some great memories at Arsenal, and speaking to Goal, Mikel Arteta has been full of praise for the former Gunners star.

Mikel Arteta praises Jack Wilshere

Arteta was asked to quickly sum up some of his former Arsenal teammates, and he spoke about Wilshere.

The current Arsenal manager had good things to say about Wilshere, claiming that he was beautiful to watch at his best.

“Jack Wilshere?”

“Beautiful to watch,” Arteta said.

Jack Wilshere could’ve been a superstar

We weren’t exaggerating when we said that Jack Wilshere may have been the most naturally talented midfielder to come through Arsenal.

Indeed, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Wilshere praised in such terms.

The Englishman was running games against some of the best teams in the world as a teenager, and it looked as though the sky was the limit for him at one point.

Unfortunately, football can be a very cruel game, and a litany of injuries led to Wilshere’s form dipping and his career ultimately being cut short.

In another world, Wilshere would still be at Arsenal captaining the club to glory, but, instead, he has to settle for a coaching role behind the scenes as his body has sadly been unable to keep up with the rigours of playing professional football.

Wilshere could’ve been the jewel in the crown of English football, but, sadly, it wasn’t to be.
