Mikel Arteta claims there is more to come from one 'outstanding' Arsenal player

Arsenal are competing in the Premier League title race and the Champions League quarter-finals, and a lot of key players are performing to their best level.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been excellent defensively, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes both arguably in the best form of their careers, whilst Declan Rice is also continuing to impress in different midfield roles.

Rice has been fantastic from the moment he arrived at Arsenal, but it was a different story for Kai Havertz, who struggled badly at the start of the season, but is now impressing as a centre-forward, and his stunning improvement in recent months could be set to continue.

Mikel Arteta claims Kai Havertz can still further improve at Arsenal

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta claimed that whilst he is delighted with how Havertz has performed, there is still room for him to further improve.

“I’m very pleased. He’s got incredible qualities to occupy different spaces in the attacking phase, to threaten the goal, to link up play, and when you have to be more direct as well he’ll give you that layout,” he stated of the German.

“Not only that, but I also think his contribution defensively is outstanding for the team, with his work rate, and the effort he is putting in the high press especially.

“He’s got more to come, more games to come, he needs to improve the numbers and I’m sure he will try to do it.

Arteta was then asked if Arsenal have seen Havertz at his very best yet, and he highlighted the difficulties he has faced in his first season at the Emirates.

“I don’t think so. At this age, and he’s just started with us, it’s his first season, he’s building those relationships. He’s moving in those positions as well and he’s that good, and with the intelligence that he has he can be much better.”

Havertz has now reached his best goals and assists tally since arriving in England three years ago, eclipsing his best total at Chelsea.

However, if he is to continue in a centre-forward role at Arsenal, then this is one area he should look to further develop in.

Whilst his attacking movement has proven useful for his side, and his impact sometimes goes under the radar, if he can become more clinical he will find he becomes Arteta’s long-term solution upfront, with Arsenal otherwise targeting several attackers in the summer transfer window.
