Aston Villa injury latest: Unai Emery confirms duo could be in contention for Arsenal clash

All the latest Aston Villa injury news including updates from Unai Emery and when each player is expected to return.

Injuries have plagued Aston Villa’s season. Despite a highly successful first full campaign under Unai Emery, the manager has had to deal with multiple injuries from day one.

Villa Park has already seen four players ruled out for the season while star man Ollie Watkins has recently struggled for consistent fitness.

In the 3-3 against Brentford, thankfully both Watkins and Emi Martinez made their comeback to the sidelines after their recent time on the sidelines.

Ahead of Villa’s next Premier League game away to Arsenal, Emery confirmed that the duo who missed the Conference League quarter-final match could be set to return at the Emirates.

Despite barely featuring in the first half of the campaign, Clement Lenglet has become a common fixture in Villa’s starting XI in 2024.

The Barcelona loanee has had a mixed spell at the club since signing with Villa shipping far too many goals in recent weeks.

However, for the crucial tie against Lille on Thursday night, Emery confirmed that the centre-back would be unavailable due to a ‘small problem’.

Now, Lenglet could be set to make a quick comeback with Emery stating that the defender is back in training. However, he will wait until the weekend until he makes a decision.

Expected return: Arsenal (April 14)

Villa’s injury crisis somehow got even worse over the recent international break. Full-back Matty Cash, who had elected to play international football for Poland, went off injured after 10 minutes for the Eastern European side.

Thankfully, his thigh injury isn’t believed to be too serious with Cash expected to make a comeback in the coming weeks. Like Lenglet, Emery confirmed that the full-back is now back in training as the manager decides over the weekend whether to risk him against Arsenal.

Jacob Ramsey has had little luck so far this season. After enduring a stop-start season due to injuries the midfielder was once again ruled out after a toe issue against Luton.

In the build-up to Brentford, Emery confirmed fans’ worst fears. The 22-year-old has now been ruled out for the season, a list that seems to be ever-growing for the Villians.

Expected return: 2024/25 season

One of the worst injuries of any Villa player this season. Kamara was a regular for Emery’s side throughout the campaign until they hosted Man United in February.

The midfielder pulled up just after the hour mark and was subsequently subbed off. After the match, it was confirmed that Kamara had torn his ACL and has since had surgery.

Another cruel blow to Villa’s campaign. The opening day of the season couldn’t have gone any worse for Emery’s side. Alongside being demolished 5-1 by Newcastle, England international Mings injured his ACL.

The defender has been out of action ever since. Despite Mings making some good progress in recent months, he is not expected to return this season.

Expected return: 2024/25 season

The final Villa man still ruled out is Buendia. The club’s former record signing suffered a significant knee ligament injury a day before the season was set to start.

Since then, the Argentine has not been able to return to the field and is not expected to do so until the next campaign.
