Antonio Reeves rocked Kentucky blue one last time on Thursday, sporting his No. 12 jersey in the Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship at the Final Four in Phoenix. And his arch nemesis, Oakland’s Jack Gohlke, was there looking to spoil his fun again, too.
Fortunately for all that is good in this world, that didn’t happen. Gohlke scored just 16 points to get knocked out in the first round, finishing second-to-last in the competition.
And that was with the support of the entire college basketball world after emerging as the media darling of the NCAA Tournament at Kentucky’s expense.
Unfortunately for Reeves, he wasn’t able to sneak out of the opening round, either. His knockout came on the heels of a ridiculous technicality on the tiebreaker, finishing in the top four in scoring with 19, but Northwestern’s Boo Buie advanced with the best individual rack.
The Kentucky sharpshooter was consistently better from start to finish, but because Buie went perfect on a single rack, he earned the opportunity to move on while Reeves was sent home.
Nonsense, if you ask me.
Taking home the title crown? Nebraska’s Keisei Tominaga, who put on a show in every round, starting with a Steph Curry turnaround at the buzzer to set the tone.
Then he closed out as the men’s champion before winning the Skechers Battle of the Champions.
ABG: Anyone But Gohlke.
Reeves deserved the title, but if anyone else had to win it, we can all live with Tominaga. That dude is an absolute freaking blast.
