Mama June Shannon’s children, Alana, Anna, Lauryn and Jessica, have accompanied the reality TV star since she rose to fame. She is now mourning the death of her eldest daughter, Anna ‘Chickadee’, who had cancer.
Anyone who has watched Mama June Shannon on TV will know she’s had many ups and downs as a mother-of-four. When she first fell pregnant, she was just 14 and had no idea she was expecting.

After welcoming Anna Cardwell into the world at 14 years old, Mama June Shannon had Jessica at 17. Three years later, the TV star brought Lauryn “Pumpkin” into the world, and then Alana at 26 years old.
She was holding down two jobs at the time, as well as a house, and “knew she had to do it because her kids depended on her,” as Shannon revealed on an episode of Botched in 2016.
It’s thanks to her youngest child, Alana Thompson, that Mama June became famous. June entered her youngest into toddler pageants, and soon bagged being featured on the TLC show Toddlers and Tiaras. Fans loved her so much they were offered their own spin-off.
Alana was the main star of reality show, Honey Boo Boo, which she says “fell on their lap” as her daughter loved pageants.
She had no idea she was pregnant
When Mama June was first pregnant as a teen, she didn’t realize until she was rushed to hospital. At 14 years old, she spent her days drinking, partying, and “doing stuff she wasn’t supposed to do”.
During an episode of Botched, she revealed partying was “the only way she could get attention”. June told cameras how she went to hospital as she kept throwing up and couldn’t keep food down.
“They did all kinds of tests on me and pulled me into a room and said, ‘I’m having a baby.’ My whole life turned upside down. I had Anna 18 days after I turned 15, so happy birthday to me,” she added.
Mama June mourns loss of eldest child
Mama June Shannon’s eldest daughter, Ann “Chickadee” Cardwell, died after a ten-month battle with cancer.
“She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months,” Shannon wrote on Instagram at the time.
She “took her last breath” while surrounded by her family following complications from stage four adrenal carcinoma on December 9, at her mother’s home in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Chickadee was surrounded by her girls, all her sisters, her husband and close family at her side. Mama June was given custody of Chickadee’s daughter following the heartbreaking death.
