A 49-year-old who had been drinking before getting behind the wheel has been banned from driving for two years.
Kevin Hutchison, of Lexham Road in Lexham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted driving above the specified alcohol limit.
Prosecutor Colette Harper explained that on February 11, Hutchison was stopped at 2.25am by police for his manner of driving down Station Street in Swaffham.
He was seen by officers “swerving all over the road”, before being arrested and taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre.
Hutchison gave a reading of 100mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal drink-drive limit is 35mcg.
The court was told that he was a man of previous good character.
He was represented in court by George Sorrell, who said that Hutchison and his wife had been out in Swaffham that evening.
“They had been out in the town centre for a meal because his partner had recently had a serious illness, they thought it was right to go out,” said Mr Sorrell.
“She became unwell and he was very concerned about her and wanted to get her home, he took the chance and drove home.
“He is bitterly ashamed of himself.”
Magistrates disqualified Hutchison from driving for 24 months. He was also fined £653 along with a victim surcharge of £261 and £105 in court costs.
