Leeds United show interest in Sunderland teenager as former striker throws hat into the ring for manager role

Sunderland just can’t seem to escape rumours of first-team players leaving their club. Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham have consistently been linked away from the club in 2024 with multiple potential suitors around the world.

Then you have academy graduate Chris Rigg who has reportedly attracted interest from rivals Newcastle.

Now it appears that Championship side Leeds have taken an interest in another Sunderland gem. The Telegraph has reported that the Yorkshire side are prepared to make an offer for Under-17 forward Mason Cotcher.

While the season is pretty much over for Sunderland, the upcoming match still has a lot of importance at the Stadium of Light.

On Easter Monday, fans had to endure a 5-1 battering by struggles Blackburn at their own home. Therefore, Saturday’s match will be a chance for the squad to show its character and bounce back in style from the humbling defeat.

New contender for Sunderland manager?

Since Michael Beale’s sacking in February, Mike Dodds has led the team out ever since. However, form has not improved for the Black Cats and a new manager is set to be announced in the summer.

Plenty of managers have been linked to the role including Will Still and Paul Heckingbottom. However, a former Sunderland striker has now thrown his name into the mix.

Jermaine Defoe, who was sensational in his spell at the Stadium of Light, has said he would ‘love’ to one day manage the club.
