Exclusive: Tottenham eyeing ‘generational’ 16-year-old midfielder who’s already being compared to Bryan Robson

Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in a young talent who is being eyed by a number of Premier League clubs.

Since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival in north London, Tottenham have brought in a number of new players to really put the Australian’s stamp on the squad.

Although some more experienced faces like Timo Werner and James Maddison have come through the doors of Hotspur Way, there have also been some younger talents.

It is easy to forget just how young players like Micky van de Ven are given the 22-year-old has had such an impact on the side.

The Dutchman has quickly become a fan favourite with the Spurs faithful delighted to see him return on Tuesday night.

But Spurs are looking at even younger talents who can provide serious long-term options for their project under Postecoglou.

The big example of this has been Lucas Bergvall with the exciting Swedish midfielder set to arrive in the summer.

After snubbing Barcelona to join the Lilywhites in the January transfer window, Spurs are proving to be a seriously attractive landing spot for young players.

The Spurs News has been speaking with HITC Football‘s transfer insider Graeme Bailey who has now said Tottenham are an option for yet another promising midfielder.

Tottenham now eyeing 16-year-old who is wanted across the Premier League

Spurs have a strong academy set-up now with a number of their youngsters seriously impressing at the U18 and U21 level.

Players like Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley are just two of the names who are receiving a lot of praise this season.

However, it seems the Lilywhites are now looking to add even more potential to their academy over the coming months.

Bailey has revealed that the Lilywhites are an option for the Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg who has attarcted some of the league’s top clubs.

“He is considering Chelsea, Tottenham, [Manchester] United – all the big teams want him and like him. He isn’t 100% going to Newcastle, but it does appear most likely.

“But yeah, if he doesn’t then Spurs are very much in contention. Very much a young Bryan Robson, him. He’s an outstanding player. He’s brilliant. He’s a generational talent.

“Spurs certainly – if he does decide not to take Newcastle – Spurs will be very much at the front of the queue.”

With one year left on the two-year scholarship he signed on Wearside last summer, Rigg will be left with a big decision to make in the very near future.

Postecoglou insists he’ll only sign a specific type of characater

Postecoglou has spoken very openly about wanting to bring the right type of players in to the squad this summer.

Eyes will be on the Champions League in the remaining eight Premier League games, but the 58-year-old has told the media that qualifying will not change their plans for the upcoming window.

“I don’t want those players. That’s a beautiful discussion for me to have. That’s one of the discussions I have: Why do you want to come to Tottenham? Because if you want Champions League football and that’s all you want, you don’t want to come to Tottenham; you just want to go to a Champions League club.

“I want people to come to Tottenham who know this club, know the challenge we’ve got — and we do have a challenge, we’re different to other clubs in that we haven’t had success for a while — so I’m looking for a certain type of character.”
