Liverpool have now ‘made contact’ to find out what’s going on with table-topping manager

Liverpool continue to sound out the best options to take over from Jurgen Klopp this summer.

The Reds are in the middle of sorting out exactly who should succeed their best manager of the modern era. It isn’t an easy task.

As a result, the decision is being made carefully. With five managers reportedly still under discussion internally at Anfield, it may still be a few weeks before we see some concrete movement.

In the meantime though, Liverpool are slowly making their steps. As some of those on their list are currently involved in hectic seasons of their own, things are going to take time.

The process has seemingly already seen one or two managers ruled out of the running. However, as we move towards the end of the campaign, Liverpool have now picked up the phone and called one of their prime targets.

Who have Liverpool been in touch with

Although the likes of Thiago Motta and Ruben Amorim are indeed involved in busy schedules of their own, Liverpool need to start making tracks.

Motta is currently focused on upsetting the odds and trying to get Bologna into next season’s Champions League. Amorim meanwhile has a massive game against Benfica this evening and is going for a league and cup double with Sporting.

But although the 39-year-old has his hands full, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Reds have actually held discussions with Amorim in order to find out where his head’s at. Roberto De Zerbi, meanwhile, has had no such call.

“Again, I keep repeating I’m not aware of any contacts between Roberto De Zerbi and Liverpool – at least not so far. It’s completely quiet on that one,” Romano explained in his Daily Briefing today.

“On Ruben Amorim, he remains the main name on Liverpool’s list for the role – but he is not the only one. Nothing is done or decided yet.

“Liverpool are still discussing the situation internally but they have made contact to be aware of Amorim’s situation, as reported days ago.”

Who else is still in the running

Amorim does appear to be the most likely to take the Liverpool job at this stage. However, it should not be considered a formality that the Portuguese is joining.

Motta’s name is still lingering around, while Julian Nagelsmann and Simone Inzaghi remain in the running, too.

For the time being though, it’s unclear whether any of that trio have been directly approached by Liverpool. Obviously, Amorim now has.

This is Liverpool and this is Michael Edwards though, so we can’t rule out a surprise candidate coming from nowhere. Always good to keep your options open. Amorim is a live on though, so keep your eyes firmly on him.
