‘One of the good things’: Josko Gvardiol says £30m Man City player is so easy to play with

Josko Gvardiol has highlighted one Manchester City teammate he enjoys playing alongside.

The defender is in the midst of his debut season at the Manchester club since arriving from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £77m during the previous summer transfer window.

With Pep Guardiola’s side in the midst of a crucial period of their season, the 22-year-old has shared his thoughts on one particular figure he’s been sharing the dressing room with at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s media, Gvardiol had this to say about Mateo Kovavic and his connection with him on the pitch.

He said: “I really understand the way he plays and it’s much easier for me when he’s on my side. That’s one of the good things. We have good communication.”

The midfielder also joined the Citizens during the previous summer transfer window, making a move from Chelsea in a deal worth £30m.

Back in July, before Gvardiol made his move to the Etihad Stadium, Kovacic had this to say about him.

He said: “Josko has great potential. He can come here and learn and be the best version of himself. I’d obviously like it, I’m a good friend with him and he’s Croatian. It would be nice to have a Croatian by my side here. He’s already played a lot of big games. He is ready for this step.”

Since the start of the season, the Croatian duo have featured in 24 games together across all competitions.

Having also played in 22 matches for Croatia since 2021, this shows the experience the pair have of playing in the same side together and why it will have helped them do it for City.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, if Gvardiol and Kovacic can continue playing together and use their connection to help benefit the other players around them, they will undoubtedly be seen as being great signings for City if they end up winning more trophies.
