Footage shows terrifying moment woman left screaming as huge snake latches onto her pet cat

Shocking footage shows the moment a mum screams in panic as ahuge snake latches onto her cat in the back garden of her family home.

In the chilling clip, the stunnedwoman first shouts at her moggy after realising that a massive python, measuring roughly 5ft (1.5m) in length, was advancing towards it. But she then shrieks as the snake - which kills prey by wrapping its muscular frame around their bodies - grabs hold of the cat.

The cat can then be seen haring off into the house with the deadly serpent still attached to it. The woman is heard yelling “No! S**t! Oh my god!” as she watches the cat hurtle away - while her terrified daughter screams in the background.

Incredibly, the pair later managed to remove the snake from the unharmed cat, with the final shot from the video showing the animal sitting alone on the terraced back garden area of the home in Buderim, Queensland, Australia.

Stuart Mckenzie of pest control firm Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, who was called to the property to collect the animal, later shared the frightening footage on Facebook. He branded the terrifying clip both “unbelievable” and “crazy”.

Writing on social media, he said: “Big Python grabs Pet Cat! Crazy! This afternoon Stu attended a job in Buderim where a large Carpet Python grabbed the pet cat out in the family courtyard!

“The mum and daughter were able to get the snake off the cat safely and call us to come and relocate it! Some of the footage (and screams) were caught on the security camera out the back! Unbelievable!”

He added: “Honestly, the mum and daughter were so brave and did a fantastic job. It was a great effort to help the cat and not hurt the snake.”

The video, which has been viewed thousands of times on social media, left many users stunned at what they had witnessed. One wrote: “OMG, that was totally insane. Hopefully the cat is going to be okay.” Another added: “I am shaking just watching that. What a brave family.” While a third chimed in: “Another good reason to keep cats indoors or in a snake proof cat enclosure. Nice wrangling, I hope the cat will be ok.”

Although it’s rare for pythons to attack large family pets, there have been instances in the past of the snakes sadly eating moggies. In 2020, the Australia Associated Press reported on an incident where one of the snakes had consumed a beloved cat.

Pet catchers were called to the address in Queensland after the owners found a two-metre snake with a bulging belly on their family lawn. Tests later revealed that the massive serpent had indeed managed to consume their cat whole, leaving her family “devastated”.
