BBC Two’s flagship book show Between The Covers on stage at Nottingham Playhouse

For the first time ever the nation’s favourite TV book club is taking to the road for a live version of the series that brings books to life.

BBC Two’s popular series will be on tour as Between The Covers Live — and will be at Nottingham Playhouse on June 3.

The live show will feature three of the best loved stars from Between The Covers: Kacey Ainsworth, Jo Brand, and Stephen Mangan — they will form the fantasy book group alongside bestselling author of Star of the Sea, Joseph O’Connor, who will tell all on his books and writing habits.

The tour will be hosted by Amanda Ross, TV’s Queen of Books and executive producer of Between The Covers. Amanda picks all the books for the television series and has chosen a fabulous new book to inspire theatre audiences to get reading with the panel.

Amanda Ross said: “We are constantly told by our viewers that the TV show is way too short, and that they would love to join in the ultimate fantasy book group — well, this is their chance. We couldn’t be more excited to take the show around the country and meet the viewers.”

Jo Brand will be part of the book club.

As with the BBC Two show, the celebrity book group will wax lyrical about some of their favourite books, their “BYOBs”, offering audiences plenty of brilliant recommendations, as well as enlightening and humorous insights into the reading habits of some of the nation’s favourite stars.

A bookshop will be set up at each venue and signings will take place after the show, with the celebrity panel, Joseph O’Connor and other authors.

Kacey Ainsworth said: “As a professional escapologist, books are the ultimate instrument of choice. And with the advent of audio books more people than ever can escape into a world of words”.

Jo Brand added: “I love reading. It takes you into a parallel world which, let’s face it, can be a relief at the moment. Come along for a night of book chat and fun.”

Stephen Mangan will be on stage for Between The Covers Live.

Stephen Mangan said: “Finding and reading books that you love is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Sitting around and discussing books with smart and funny people is up there too.”

Joseph O’Connor added: "I'm just delighted to be taking part in Between The Covers Live! and looking forward to what I know will be a brilliant celebration of reading."
