A Downham man who was involved in a four-car crash had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.
Adam Bandy, 33, of Priory Road, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted driving while above the specified alcohol limit.
On August 18 last year, Bandy was driving a Lexus down the A10 near Wimbotsham when he was involved in a crash with a Tesla, a BMW and an Audi.
Crown prosecutor Colette Harper explained that when emergency services arrived at the scene, Bandy was found standing next to his vehicle.
Police conducted a roadside breath test on him, which came back positive. He was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further checks after being involved in the collision.
While in the hospital, a blood test was carried out which came back with a reading of 244mcg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit to drive is 80mcg.
In mitigation, George Sorrell explained that Bandy had never been in court before and was suffering with severe mental health problems at the time of the offence.
“Things were bad last August,” Mr Sorrell said.
“He should have thought of other people. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured or lost their life in the accident.
“His mind wasn’t working properly at the time - he has not consumed alcohol since this happened.”
Magistrates disqualified Bandy from driving for 28 months and fined him £200 for committing the offence.
He will also pay a victim surcharge of £80 and court costs of £105.
