‘He was superb’: Mikel Arteta says one Arsenal player did something nobody expected vs Brighton

Mikel Arteta has praised one Arsenal player for doing something ‘nobody expected’ against Brighton last night.

Arsenal put in yet another dominant display on the road as they picked up a 3-0 win at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening.

Bukayo Saka made no mistake from the spot after Gabriel Jesus was brought down by Tariq Lamptey in the 33rd minute.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard wrapped up the win with second-half goals as the latter netted a delightful chip at his old stomping ground.

Havertz has received plenty of praise after another encouraging performance while leading the line for Arsenal.

The German netted his 10th goal of the season last night after some excellent work from Jorginho down the right-hand side.

Jorginho delivered an inch-perfect ball to the German after a rare venture forward into the Brighton half. And Mikel Arteta was keen to point out the Italian’s display after the win over Brighton.

Arteta lauds ‘superb’ Jorginho after Arsenal beat Brighton

Speaking to the media following last night’s win, Arteta singled out Jorginho for praise after creating their second goal of the evening.

“He was superb,” the Arsenal boss said. “And as well, I think nobody expected him to run into those areas with the ball to assist Kai but I think his leadership, his intelligence, the quality he delivers, I think it makes everybody better.

“I think today he, Dec and Martin in the middle were outstanding.”

Jorginho proving his worth for Arsenal

Ever since the turn of the year, Jorginho has proven to be an integral part of Arteta’s side.

The 32-year-old has operated at the base of midfield, which has allowed Declan Rice to play in a more advanced role.

Such has been the Italian star’s impact, Thomas Partey returned to the bench for last night’s crucial clash at the Amex.

Jorginho is highly-regarded at Arsenal andHavertz even labelled the former Chelsea star as ‘one of the best’ he’s ever played with.

Signed for just £12 million last January, Jorginho is proving to be an astute piece of business for the Gunners.
