Report: Man City now want to pay 'unbelievable' player £300,000 per week, as new contract talks eyed

Manchester City are reportedly planning to open talks with one of their most important players about signing a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Yesterday, City recorded another win in the Premier League, beating Crystal Palace 4-2 at Selhurst Park, with the brilliant Kevin De Bruyne scoring two goals.

It was a good win that put pressure on Arsenal, who responded later in the day by beating Brighton, and Liverpool, who play today against Manchester United.

City are seemingly going to be challenged all the way this season for the Premier League title, and so it is going to be vital for key players to step up.

One man whom Pep will definitely be able to count on is Rodri, who has enjoyed yet another wonderful campaign.

The Spaniard has been in exceptional form and now, it is being claimed that he is being lined up for a shiny new contract at the Etihad Stadium…

It has been reported by The Sun that City officials are now intending to sit down with Rodri this summer to talk about a new contract.

At the moment, the 27-year-old has a contract at City until 2027.

But the club are keen to add another couple of years onto that, and keep the player around until the age of 32.

Currently, Rodri takes home around £180,000 per week, which is fairly modest considering his standing as the best holding midfielder in world football.

City officials would seek to make Rodri one the top earners at the club on around £300,000 per week.

Should he sign off on such a contract, then only Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland would then be earning more than him, and he would be on the same as Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva, as per Spotrac.

New contract for Rodri is overdue – he deserves pay hike

This will be music to the ears of City fans everywhere, because no one holds a candle to Rodri.

He is the best holding midfielder in the world by a distance, and a new contract for him as actually somewhat overdue given how good he has been for so long now.

His last new contract came in July 2022, and he now thoroughly deserves an extension.

Rodri is just so consistent and as Gary Neville said recently, he has an ‘unbelievable’ influence on the team. He absolutely should be among the top earners at the Etihad.

City fans would love to hope that he would sign off on fresh terms without hesitation. He is certainly adored by the fanbase, and you don’t tend to hear of other clubs being interested in signing him.

That is likely because other clubs know that he would simply be far too expensive to try to sign.
