What Brighton fans were doing to Leandro Trossard before 'really funny' Arsenal moment

Journalist Charles Watts has now recalled one amusing moment he witnessed as Arsenal beat Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Arsenal were efficient and clinical with how they went about beating Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side are under tremendous pressure at this point in the campaign. The Gunners are well aware that if they are to be crowned champions, then they can scarcely afford to drop a single point between now and the end of the season.

However, the North London club betrayed no sign of nerves as they produced an accomplished performance on the south coast.

The visitors were diligent at the back, as they ensured that Roberto De Zerbi’s side could not carve out a single clear-cut opportunity in the match. They were also excellent going forward. Arsenal set a new record against Brighton with their attacking play and creativity in the final third.

Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock in the first half from the penalty spot before Kai Havertz added a second after the break. The German then assisted Leandro Trossard in the final minutes of the match as the Belgian added some gloss to the scoreline against his former club.

What did Brighton fans do to Leandro Trossard?

Trossard clearly enjoyed his strike against the Seagulls, and he took his goal well, showing great composure to bide his time and then clip the ball over the flailing Bart Verbruggen.

Charles Watts particularly enjoyed Trossard’s finish following the treatment he had received from the Brighton fans throughout the match. Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, the reporter stated, “Trossard with the goal, it was really funny. Brighton fans were booing Trossard all afternoon, because obviously he’s a former Brighton player and the way he left upset a fair few of them around here. So they were booing him all afternoon, and then he raced away. You know Trossard, when he’s in front of goal, he’s such a good finisher, such a clinical finisher.”

“It was like someone had just hit the alarm and the whole stadium just started to empty of the Brighton fans, it was pretty funny.”

How important is Leandro Trossard to Arsenal?

With this goal, Trossard took his tally for the season so far, across all competitions, to 12. Considering the 29-year-old is not a regular starter, this is a hugely impressive return and underlines his important role within Arteta’s squad, even if he isn’t named in the team week in, week out.

It has previously been suggested that Trossard may not be entirely satisfied with the nature of his role at Arsenal. However, that does not mean that he lacks commitment to the cause. If the Gunners do go on to achieve their aims for this season and become Premier League champions then the 32-cap Belgium international will have played a vital role in that triumph.
