'Not normal': Tata Martino explains major Inter Miami problem, after Colorado Rapids draw

Tata Martino has explained one major issue Inter Miami have after the Herons threw away a 2-1 lead to draw with the Colorado Rapids.

A Lionel Messi-inspired comeback after going 1-0 down saw Inter Miami head into the final moments of last night’s fixture with the lead, only for the visitors to equalize through Cole Bassett.

With Inter Miami again throwing away points in MLS, questions are starting to be raised over whether the Florida franchise actually have what it takes to make it to the playoffs this season.

And speaking to the Miami Herald after the fixture, manager Martino detailed why Inter Miami always seem to throw away promising results, with the Herons earlier this week losing to CF Monterrey after going 1-0 up.

However, given that Messi was involved on Saturday and that the Colorado Rapids’ goal came out of nothing, there’s real reason to believe why Inter Miami have some issues to iron out in the coming weeks.

Martino said when asked why Inter Miami keep throwing away promising leads: “We continue to commit errors that make us leave points in our wake.

“Winning a game 2-1 in the 87th minute, and for them to score on a counterattack is not normal. Not having a good reading of the game, of the moment. Not having people in front of the attacker, it definitely cost us.”

Inter Miami have to resolve defensive issues as soon as possible

Inter Miami’s defense has been an issue since the day the franchise first started competing in MLS, with a manager as good as Martino yet to plug in the glaring gaps at the back.

Whilst moves have been made the remedy the issues, more has to be done if Inter Miami are to be considered a real threat for the MLS playoffs, even with Messi and Luis Suarez on their books.

Indeed, the Herons have all the attacking qualities needed to dominate this division, but it all means nothing if Inter Miami can’t resolve their issues at the back when it matters most.
