Essex Police recover and seize 153 stolen or uninsured vehicles and make 126 arrests in first quarter of 2024

Essex Police’s road crime team recovered a stolen vehicle every other day on average in the first three months of this year.

Between the start of January and the end of March, they returned 44 stolen vehicles to their rightful owners, seized 109 uninsured ones and made 126 arrests.

The road crime team targets criminals using Essex’s road network as well as those committing vehicle crime on our roads.

Superintendent Phil Stinger said: “The work of the road crime team is really important to keeping you safe on our roads and in our communities.

“They’ve been vital in our work to tackle things like organised crime groups stealing vehicles as well as protecting you from people who may put your safety at risk.

“And the numbers speak for themselves. They’ve been prolific in targeting those who put you in danger.

“We know the impact having your car stolen has – and how pleased you are to get it back – and the road crime team has worked hard to find and recover vehicles.

“This is just a snapshot of the work that takes place across the county to keep you safe and target those committing crime.”
