£27m Arsenal star told he's better than Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz at one thing

Journalist James McNicholas has now named the Arsenal player who he feels outshines Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in one key area.

Much has been made this season of the lack of a pure goalscorer in the Arsenal squad.

The Gunners do not have an Erling Haaland or a Harry Kane to lead the line. Instead, Mikel Arteta’s side score goals by committee.

Whilst Bukayo Saka is the North London club’s most potent attacker, with 17 goals to his name this season, the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard, amongst others, are all expected to chip in too.

Havertz has been in particularly good form in front of goal in recent weeks. The German may well have now established himself as Arteta’s first choice striker. The 24-year-old grabbed another goal and an assist against Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.

Do Arsenal lack a clinical goalscorer?

However, Havertz has been described as a slightly “scrappy” finisher in the past. He certainly isn’t the cleanest striker of the ball.

Equally, Jesus has had his struggles when it comes to finding the back of the net this season. The Brazilian had a very presentable chance against the Seagulls but could only direct his head wide from close range.

Jesus has vowed to make changes to his game in an effort to become more prolific. In truth, though, for all of his numerous other qualities, the former Manchester City man lacks the instinctive ruthlessness that is the hallmark of great goalscorers.

One Arsenal player who does possess that coolness and composure though is Trossard. Against Brighton he demonstrated his confidence in front of goal as he dinked the ball over Bart Verbruggen in the dying stages of the game.

Trossard will have particularly enjoyed that goal as a former Brighton player himself, as he had been jeered and taunted by the home fans throughout the match.

Is Leandro Trossard the best finisher at Arsenal?

James McNicholas is now of the opinion that the Belgian is the best finisher currently on the books at Arsenal. Speaking in his latest On The Whistle video, the reporter said, “Leandro Trossard, against his former club, breaks away and finishes so well. The best finisher at the club? I think he probably is.”

Since Arsenal paid £27 million to prise the 29-year-old away from Brighton in the January of 2023, he has proven himself to be an incredibly useful figure in Arteta’s squad. Whilst he has never been a nailed-on starter, he has shown that he can impact games from the bench, just as he did on the south coast on Saturday.

Certainly, if Arsenal are ever in need of a goal late on in a game, Trossard is the man they will want a chance to fall to.
