'People were saying...': Marco Silva thinks Fulham have proven the doubters wrong this season

Fulham boss Marco Silva believes his side have proven everybody wrong by avoiding a relegation battle to stay in the Premier League this season.

Fulham are in danger of seeing the season fizzle out a little.

Everybody got a little excited – us included – after those big wins over Manchester United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

That win over Tottenham came just before the international break and Fulham’s momentum appears to have been broken.

A 3-3 draw at Sheffield United wasn’t particularly impressive and Fulham then collapsed to a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Saturday’s display against Newcastle United was improved but Fulham still ended up on the losing side.

Bruno Guimaraes bagged the only goal of the game, handing Fulham 1-0 defeat to make it just one point from three games since the international break.

Marco Silva on Fulham

This mini-run has been frustrating for Fulham fans.

This group of players can clearly come up with big results but finding consistency has been a problem.

Fulham are just as likely to go and win at Old Trafford as they are to go and turn in a stinker of a performance at Nottingham Forest.

Still, Fulham sit 14 points clear of the Premier League drop zone with just six games to go.

Fulham aren’t mathematically safe yet but as good as there – and boss Marco Silva is delighted with that.

Silva was quoted by BBC Sport as saying that he remembers people saying that Fulham would struggle to survive.

Silva is taking delight in proving those people wrong but still wants to see the club progress and climb the Premier League table.

“We have to keep going. It has been a very good season for us again,” said Silva. “I have to go back and have a look at everything but even at the start of the season people were saying that Fulham would struggle, that we would even struggle to stay in the Premier League, and right now we are almost at the middle of the table.”

“We want to climb the table, add more points for ourselves, and to do this we need to keep working hard, like we did this afternoon, but in this way we can keep going,” he added.

A tricky summer awaits

Fulham and Silva want to progress but this could be a tricky summer transfer window.

Tosin Adarabioyo is out of contract and could leave the club this summer whilst Antonee Robinson has attracted major interest.

Will Joao Palhinha still be at Fulham come the start of next season? Will Fulham push to keep Willian at the club?

There are so many questions around Fulham and seeing this up-and-down form won’t really ease concerns.

This has been a largely positive season but Fulham need to have some key targets in mind for this summer if the club is to progress as Silva wants.
