Manchester United fans have a lot to say about Andre Onana after dramatic Liverpool clash, with one complaint

Andre Onana is continuing to prove his worth as a Manchester United player in challenging circumstances.

Swat aside the Champions League errors, and Andre Onana has been putting together a pretty solid season in the Premier League.

He is second in the Golden Glove race, an impressive achievement considering the rate Manchester United are giving up shots.

Against Liverpool, the match followed a typical pattern of a Manchester United game.

The visitors had 28 shots in total, seven on target, unfortunately conceding from a corner and a penalty in the 2-2 draw.

Liverpool had an Expected Goals tally of 3.67, higher than in their seven-goal haul at Anfield last season.

Andre Onana earning praise

Andre Onana’s performance against Liverpool has seen the Cameroon international earn more respect from fans

One wrote: “Low-key become the most important name on our team. Andre Onana was worth every penny. Incredible.”

Another noted: “Andre Onana hasn’t lost a game to Liverpool as a Manchester United player.”

“Today showed why Andre Onana was signed, what a performance,” wrote another.

A fourth supporter wrote: “Andre Onana has been fantastic in recent games after the shaky start he had to his United career. He’s proving his worth.”

Again, another fan observed: “Andre Onana has been world class since returning from afcon (and in the prem in general). next season has a lot of potential upside with a settled defense in front of him.”

One standout moment saw Onana bambooze Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo with a turn inside his own box, leaving the Dutchman looking lost.

“Onana sent Gakpo back to Netherlands,” wrote one fan, with another adding: “Onana really cooked Gakpo.”

One complaint over Onana display

There was one small complaint over Andre Onana’s display, and that was that for the third time in two games, he was sent the wrong way from a penalty.

Saving spot-kicks is hard for goalkeepers, and Onana has shown he is capable, with a stunning save against Copenhagen earlier in the season.

But in these past two matches with Chelsea and Liverpool, he has been out of luck, not just failing to save them, sent the wrong way each time.

Bad luck? Perhaps. It would help if referees would stop giving soft penalties against Manchester United, and if the defence would stop giving them reason to do so.

“Has Onana ever dived the right way yet for a penalty?”, asked one fan on X.

Another noted: “Onana only dives to his left when it comes to penalties, doesn’t mix things up.”

More criticism followed: “Onana always dives way too early for pens. Makes it so easy for the taker to hit it to the other side,” wrote one supporter.

Let’s hope his penalty saving skills don’t need to be put to the test again any time soon.
