‘I never knew’: BBC pundit shocked by £34.5m Tottenham Hotspur player vs Nottingham Forest

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur beat Nottingham Forest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur got the better of Nottingham Forest 3-1 this past Sunday. Ange Postecoglou’s side are now fourth and are in a very good position to finish in the UEFA Champions League places.

Spurs have picked up 60 points from 31 matches. The North London club are level on points with Aston Villa, who are fifth and have played 32 games.

Manchester United are way behind in sixth with 49 points from 31 games. Ido not think that Erik ten Hag’s side will end up in the top four or even clinch the fifth spot in the Premier League table this season.

One of the players who did well for Tottenham against Forest wasMicky van de Ven, who was a rock at the back and also scored one of the goals.

The £34.5 million (The Guardian) Netherlands international found the back of the net in the 52nd minute with, as BBC Sport described it, “a thunderous shot” from the edge of the penalty area.

Van de Ven has been a star for Tottenham this season. The 22-year-old centre-back has been a rock in defence and has impressed everyone with his pace.

Garth Crooks shocked by Tottenham Hotspur defender

Former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks has included Van de Ven in his Premier League Team of the Week.

The BBC Sport pundit was shocked by the way the Netherlands international central defender scored the goal against Forest.

Crooks wrote about Van de Ven on BBC Sport: “What a strike – the goalkeeper never moved. We know he has pace and we know he has the composure but I never knew Van de Ven could strike a ball like he did in the 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest. It was about as good as a two-touch finish you will see. It was also a very important goal for Spurs whose inconsistency is their only threat to a top-four place.

“The goal settled Tottenham down sufficiently to put a potentially troublesome Forest side to bed. Spurs go back into the top four with a mouth-watering tie against Arsenal looming in three weeks’ time. Both clubs need maximum points for very different reasons but defeat for either club could ruin their most cherished ambitions this season.”

Tottenham Hotspur fans should be optimistic

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur fans should be optimistic about the team ending up in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Spurs have won three of their last five Premier League games and are in better form than Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side have won one and lost two of their last five league matches.
